Overview

Located about 350 kilometers to the north of Vientiane, Luang Namtha is the largest settlement in northwest Laos which lies on the Tha River. The province is home to the Nam Ha National BiodiversityReserve and is one of the main sugarcane and rubber production areas of Laos. This place has developed as a sustainable cultural and eco-tourism destination with the help of neighboring countries and several organizations.

Like Huay Xai, Luang Nam Tha is considered as a stopover point of most visitors coming from China to Laos instead of taking the uncomfortable and crowded boat ride between Luang Prabang and Huay Xai. If you want to explore the local culture, head to Luang Nam Tha Museum. The unique architecture and peaceful scenery at Samakkhixay Stupa temple will leave tourists memorable moments. If you are into shopping, you can visit Luang Nam Tha market or Panfa Art to buy some souvenirs for your family -  all made by local artisans and workmen. Forest habitation and mountainous terrain would be ideal for trekkers. If you want to see the rural landscape, you can hire a tuk-tuk or bicycle around villages such as Vieng Phouka, Muang Nalea or Muang Sing., For a relaxing experience, you can go to one of the herbal sauna services located close to the Lao Airlines Office beside Panda Restaurant.
